This effort really shows the fruit of a lot of hours of hard work and a collection of what I'm sure at times seemed to be "infinite decisions". From the cover of this CD I can see that you're a seasoned guy and that it's not your first rodeo. You have a personal style and are not afraid of going against the grain even when there areprobably numerouus expectations around surrounding you. With this in mind, it may be good to see even more of this personal style within the track on this song. Although I'm reluctant to use the term "gimmicky" around fellow artist circles, I think that may be the key in being able to market this type of sound in today's climate. A reoccurring instrument that might have a slightly quirky sound or a normal instrument played in a unique way (vibey side man) might give you an instantly recognizable identity to match your look. Your vocal even though expressive, may benefit from singing lower 9deeper in diaphragm / out of throat). This may give you greater power and improve pitch in a few spots.
STYLE
It seems like you've successfully merged Bob Seger's "Turn the Page" with Chicago's "25 or 6 to 4".
MELODY
This melody flows naturally from top to bottom. It follows a logical path along the lines of the chosen chord structure. From these facts it's evident that you have a good sense of melody / chord interaction.
STRUCTURE
The structure of this song seems pretty solid for approximately the first half of the song. At that point, it may be desirable to hear a section with a "counter" type rhythm to break things up a bit. It may be a good idea to let the band jamat end / limit vox improv.
LYRIC
This lyric has an attractive nature in that it's simplistic but says a lot. It's always a positive quality in a writer to see that they're delivering the overall message of the song with efficiency. It's quite obvious that you've captured much emotion here as well. This combination of elements makes for a legitimate lyrical presentation.
TITLE
"Learning How To Fly" is the obvious choice for this song and a good title to end the project with.
