LOVING A LIE

Richard:

The main point I would probably look at in terms of this song is what I mentioned in the "Lyric" section - the laid back feel is OK, the vocal is easy enough to listen to, the melodic flow is nice, the instrumentation is pleasant to listen to - but when it comes down to it, what is the song about?

That it seems to be the story in the lyric feels like a description of a situation but doesn't seem to have a narrative flow and dynamic esposition.

Even the title, which has an interesting built in contrast, seems a bit off the point - do they really "love the lie"? Or, is the love the lie and there is no other reason to continue the relationship?

As mentioned, I would think the interesting aspect of the lyric development would be why they choose (or chose) to stay in it - the "whatever reason" alluded to.

STYLE

Again, seems a bit new age even in sonic feel (and probably the sax).

MELODY

Another good flow and delivery - good background vocal gives a nice pad. Has a bit of a jazzy kind of feel in some of the phrasing.

STRUCTURE

Has some of that light easy listening vibe to the flow here - has a Kenny G kind of feel to the structure. Doesn't seem particularly laid out dynamically for lifts and emphasis - sort of static in flow.

LYRIC

I get the idea here, but it seems to take a long time to say what could be said (and in a way is said) more efficiently - the key line to me here is: "for whatever reason" - I would think emotionally that would be the key to making this idea interesting - why did they stay in a situation that has come to be seen as a lie by at least one partner?

TITLE

Interesting title - at first not sure if it's a play on "living a lie".
